  • MKENYA DAIMA Peaceful Elections

United in DiversityTrue North Leadership is proud to announce that we are supporting MKENYA DAIMA.

The primary purpose of the MKENYA DAIMA campaign is to inspire all Kenyans towards peaceful elections and a better Kenya for all.

By elections coming closer the image of the post election violence of 2007/08 seems to be waking up – and it is core that each one of us takes up our responsibility to keep the peace and by this also ensuring that Kenya can continue its development and growth.

The human potential here is amazing!
Just imagine where this nation can be in 2020 already if even 20% of the youth is passionate about growth and transformation towards a greater nation. We are already seeing the viral effects of the Hubs of entrepreneurship and IT. The creativity and the skills, and I wonder what the percentage is now of youth having access to unleashing their potential. Our Human Potential is the pillar in this nation.
Unleashing this potential even partly will by far allowing us to reach Vision 2030J

    “mwana-nchi sio mweny-nchi”
(The ordinary citizens are not children of the nation but owners of the nation)

What if the time and energy used on revenge, jealousy, taking others down, and fighting would be used towards building a better quality of life? I am wondering what changes this could make for you? For your neighbour? For your family? For the community?

True North Leadership will participate with our competencies in Self Leadership and as I commit myself as an individual Human Being and the organization as such including True North Leadership College, I also know that many of the students have already committed themselves at working towards this.

2 students can directly affect the lives of 1,500 people in their local community …. This has already happened! I am wondering what 30 students working together with a target can do….

    Our students are committed towards:

    1. Participation in MKENYA DAIMA by being inspirational pillars towards peaceful elections.
    2. Assisting in bringing awareness and training to youth leaders in Nairobi as well as up country.
    3. Being part of bringing out the message of high values such as peace, integrity, focus on purpose, impartiality, awareness, care, unity – One Nation!

I know that already now they do it, and now through MKENYA DAIMA we have a great structure where an amazing team of highly professional people have come together – mobilizing strengths in many different areas – areas such as

    • Presidential debates on TV and Radio
    • Music
    • Meetings
    • Media
    • Conflict management
    • Leadership
    • Workplace programmes

  • Financial Literacy training: Equity Bank & True North Leadership

True North Leadership students with creative ideas for improving businesses

“It will really change the community!” stated Pamela, one of our local community leaders and entrepreneurs. The community will have a higher income, and even the education possibilities and the health status will improve.

Everyone is quietly listening to the words of Lillian, the trainer from Equity Bank, as she is talking about savings, good debts and bad debts, group accounts, budgeting, income, insurance, health insurance, entrepreneurship. And Salome Wanjiku is more than busy noting down these important headlines of the 3 months Financial Literacy Programme which Equity Bank is now providing to the Kenyans with a target of more than 620,000 people.

True North Leadership Academy has invited representatives for students, staff, parents, and local entrepreneurs to participate in this meeting with the trainer in Financial Literacy, Lillian.

The questions are many and they witness that there is a great interest and need for the banking products – all of them! It is a challenge for many of the families in the communities we work with, as banking products have not been very accessible to the common people of Kenya.

Charles concentrated on creating a business plan

This basically means that there is limited access to saving accounts, loans, and insurance.  In many communities this has then created the need for savings groups, where a group of people join forces and by saving together also provide a possibility for credit facilities to the members in the group, as well as future possibilities for micro credit.

The low level of credit facilities has an impact on the investment opportunities, and it is clear that the access to liquidity, money, is essential for growth in Kenya.

    Harriet presenting

Entrepreneurship needs capital and Financial Literacy

Financial Literacy is essential for the access to liquidity, as well as for running a business and  a house hold.

We have partnered up with Equity Bank to have them giving their professional training to our students, staff, parents, partners, and the local communities around our students.

Our dream is to see the participants gain a knowledge which will enable them to move to the next step in pursuing their dreams, and our mission and vision links up very well with Equity Bank:

    Purpose of Equity Bank:

We exist to transform the lives and livelihoods of our people socially and economically by availing them modern, inclusive financial services that maximize their opportunities.

  • Iddi Achieng supporting Girl Child

The entrance is alight with the smiles of the girls and guys in Orange T-shirts saying True North College, Re-Defining Education.

Feet are moving to the music while the audience enters with pads and panties in their hands, delivering the important message in the box next to Virginia.

By the time Iddi Achieng entered the stage all students showed true African roots and danced!

Iddi Achieng is a woman passionate for supporting the girl child, and this cause has brought her to this concert, assisted by people who also understand the need for panties and pads for the girls in the rural areas, thereby also assisting them indirectly in attending school and thus pursuing education.

Charles and Caroline (Director of Theatre) discussing how True North Students will become active in the Theatre world

The collection of panties and pads has been happening  in many places on earth, and at the moment there are thousands and thousands, so this is really going to touch thousands of girls.

Staff and Students from True North Leadership Academy support the cause, and we are all looking so much forward to Iddi Achieng visiting us, and enlighten us even more about what is close to her heart.

    Allan, Nixon, Nancy, Petronilla

As we also have students who are advocating for education, and some are especially targeting the girls, we are looking forward to exchanging ideas of how to assist even more with this.

    Just cant stop!!!!

  • Cradle

Discussing the challenges of the parents

what would change in the community if we give our kids better development conditions?

Just imagine the differences that could take place in 15 year in a slum area if the kids are mentally stimulated from small, and if they with that do even better at school and have the ability to think outside of the box and do creative and social entrepreneurship.

An idea of opening a cradle for the children of potential students turned out to be even more needed than we had ever imagined.

The local communities in connection with Wilson Airport do not have any proper cradle facilities, and yet the mothers to the young children will have to go to work to earn a living.

In the day care possibilities that are available now the children are normally only sleeping, eating and having changed diapers. This leaves the whole stimulation of the brain out.

Together with the community we would like to start a cradle where the children are mentally stimulated, taken well care of emotionally, and health wise.

We would like this to include:

    Play Therapy
    Learning through playing
    Pedagogy
    Health
    hygiene
    Child Psychology
    Neuro Semantics
Entrepreneurship for the people who we will train in the cradle to start their own cradles

The idea is resting until we can find the funding to build proper facilities.
